How home grants work in Ireland
There are two main sources of grants for home improvements:
- SEAI (the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) funds energy upgrades such as insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and new windows. Most SEAI grants are paid after the work is done, and you must use an SEAI-registered contractor.
- Your local council runs housing grants, such as grants to adapt a home for an older person or someone with a disability, and the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.
The single most important rule for almost every grant: get approval before any work starts. Work started before approval usually cannot be funded.

Can I combine grants?
Often, yes. SEAI grants for different measures can usually be claimed together, for example attic insulation, wall insulation and a heat pump. Some council and SEAI grants can also be combined. Each grant page explains what it can be combined with.
