Insulation Grants Ireland 2026

SEAI insulation grants cover attic, cavity wall, internal wall (dry lining) and external wall insulation. For attic and cavity wall insulation, the grant can cover most of the typical cost. Your home must have been built and occupied before 2011, and you need approval before work starts.

  • Attic insulation up to €2,000
  • Cavity wall up to €1,800
  • External wall insulation up to €8,000
  • Higher amounts for some first-time buyers and welfare recipients

Which insulation does my home need?

  • Attic insulation: the cheapest and quickest upgrade, and usually the first to do.
  • Cavity wall insulation: for homes with an empty or part-filled cavity between two layers of brick or block.
  • Internal wall insulation: for solid walls where the outside can't change, common in period homes.
  • External wall insulation: wraps the outside of the house; the biggest improvement for solid or hollow-block walls.

A BER or home energy assessment will tell you which suits your home.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check your home qualifies: built and occupied before 2011.
  2. Get quotes from SEAI-registered insulation contractors.
  3. Apply online and wait for grant approval.
  4. Have the work done once approved.
  5. Get a post-works BER if required, and submit your paperwork.
  6. Receive the grant, paid after SEAI checks your claim.

What will I actually pay?

Internal wall€6,000–€18,000€3,500

Mistakes to avoid: starting before approval, using an unregistered contractor, and insulating without checking ventilation, which can lead to condensation.
