Heat Pump Technical Assessment
Before you can get the SEAI heat pump grant, a technical assessment must show your home is ready for a heat pump. A €200 grant towards the assessment is available as part of the heat pump grant.
- Required for the heat pump grant
- €200 grant towards the cost
- Checks your home's heat loss
- Shows what to upgrade first
What the assessment checks
An SEAI-registered assessor looks at your walls, roof, floors, windows and airtightness to work out how much heat your home loses. To qualify for the heat pump grant, this heat loss must be below a set threshold, because heat pumps work best in well-insulated homes.
If your home isn't ready yet, the report shows which upgrades would bring it up to standard, usually attic or wall insulation.
How much does it cost?
A grant of €200 towards the assessment can be claimed as part of the heat pump grant. Assessors set their own prices, so compare a few quotes.
What happens next
- If your home is ready: get quotes from SEAI-registered heat pump installers and apply for the heat pump grant.
- If it isn't: complete the recommended upgrades, using the insulation grants, then reassess.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a technical assessment for a heat pump?
Yes, to get the SEAI heat pump grant.
Is there a grant for the technical assessment?
Yes, €200, claimable as part of the heat pump grant.
What if my home fails the assessment?
The report shows which upgrades are needed. Once they're done, your home can be reassessed.
Is a technical assessment the same as a BER?
No. A BER rates your home's energy performance; a technical assessment checks whether it's ready for a heat pump.
